Dear friends of AviUnite.

We are aware that a lot of you are awaiting updates on what has happened to AviUnite and the current content which our site is being redirected to. What I can assure you is AviUnite is safe and we are keeping it that way. I will try to explain more below on what has happened to our site.

A bit of background... As some of you will be aware, we rely like thousands of other people who own domain companies where we can purchase and renew our domain (please if this shows as a link to you do not click it!) In February this year, as we do every other year we renewed our domain with the company who provides us with this service for a further 2 years. As far as we were concerned everything was fine and the site continued to run and along with other companies we were working on ensuring we meet the new privacy laws which are currently coming into effect. On Sunday of last week we opened the site to find out it was redirecting to a site which we have no affiliation with at all. Our first thoughts were that our site may have been attacked and put in place all the steps we could to check this. This is when we discovered this was not the case. What has happened is when we renewed our domain.

What happened ... OpenSRS and Verisign has technical issues on the day the renewal took place so never actually registered with them that we had renewed, even though everything on our side and on our registration company was showing something different. As Verisign and OpenSRS saw the domain as not being renewed they passed it to the auction sites Go Daddy/NameCheap, both of who we have contacted and have been less than helpful. What they did allow to happen was for the domain sold on to a company based in the Cayman Islands who are now with no better way of explaining are holding our .com domain to ransom requesting a payment of just under $10,000 which obviously as you can imagine is not something we can pay.

What are we doing to fix this.... On a temporary basis we are registering AviUnite under and .uk just so we can at least get the grid back up and running. Which as you can imagine is not an easy job due to a complete domain change but we are working as quickly as possible to now get this working.

Long term, we are working/badgering/shouting at however your would like to see it with our register company on a daily basis via messages and phone calls on a fighting to get our .com domain back.

I would like to assure all users of AviUnite that none of our systems have come under attack and no one has been able to gain access to any user details or the grid its self. Simply put we have had our domain taken from us and we are fighting tooth and nail to get it back. We can't apologise enough for the inconvenience this is causing and want to assure you we are trying all we can to get a resolution to this.

As soon as we have any further updates I will of course try to get the information out to everyone but in the meantime please can I ask you all to keep an eye on this site, our facebook and our twitter and we will keep you informed.

Thank you all for your support and patience and if you need any further help please feel free to contact us via our facebook page or our temp email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
